The reborn Karma Automotive will rename its electric sedan the Karma Revero.
Previously known as the Fisker Karma, the sedan will be produced in the U.S., as Karma Automotive has moved its tools and equipment from Finland. According to Karma Automotive, the new name for the model is a combination of the Latin “re” and “vero,” which translates to “truth.”
Karma Automotive is now owned by China’s Wanxiang Group and plans to start taking orders for the Karma Revero later this year with a debut in July or August. Jim Taylor, a former General Motors executive now serving as Karma’s chief marketing officer, recently told The Wall Street Journal that the automaker has been holding events with current Fisker owners and has continued to provide service and upgrades to the electronics. Approximately 80 percent of the original 1,950 buyers still own their vehicles.

The new Karma Revero will use an electric powertrain sourced from BMW as part of an agreement made last year. It will allow Karma to overhaul the vehicle’s internals while keeping the same exterior design of the original Fisker Karma. The company is also considering a direct-sales approach similar to Tesla or to partner with franchised dealers.
“There are huge, serious, major upgrades throughout the electronics systems, wiring, charging, battery,” said Taylor. “It just won’t be visible to the naked eye.”
