If you thought those Nissan NISMO mashups were bizarre, you’ll want to take a look at this.

The Japanese automaker has decided to marry a Leaf to a Frontier, creating an electric pickup truck to be used around the shop. The project was brought to life by Nissan’s Roland Schellenberg and Arnold Moulinet at the Nissan Technical Center in Stanfield, Arizona and has been nicknamed “Sparky” around the campus.

According to Nissan, the engineers at the Technical Center “love to build things, test things and tinker with things.” Often asking the question of “why not?” they decided to build the one-of-a-kind electric vehicle to haul supplies and people around on the tech center property.

To very little surprise, Schellenberg admits that even though it’s a “slick truck” the transformed Leaf is “not so tough,” so don’t expect it to head to production anytime soon.
